Romanian marathon runner Constantina Dita was accepted into the World Records Academy, as of Monday, as the oldest living marathon champion of all time. The record was officially announced on the institution’s website, worldrecordsacademy.org.

The Romanian athlete won the Olympic title in the Beijing Olympics last year, when she was 38, eight years older than the previous record holder, Portugal’s Rosa Mota, who won the event at the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988.

World Records Academy also underlines that Dita’s victory was a memorable moment and that her performance will be part not only of Olympic history but also one of the records of this organization.

Tomescu, Dita’s coach for the Beijing Olympics, was named as the youngest coach of an Olympic marathon champion. Tomescu was only 32 when the athlete won the Olympic title in Beijing.

World Records Academy is a world leader in certifying records and a member of National Geographic Society. Each world record is checked by an international committee made of law firms, notary publics, specialized consultants, former athletes, leaders of international sports bodies and media representatives.


Constantina Diţă şi Valeriu Tomescu au intrat în World Records Academy

Maratonista română Constantina Diţă a intrat, începând de luni, în World Records Academy, ca fiind cea mai în vârstă campioană olimpică de maraton din toate timpurile.

Omologarea recordului a fost anunţată marţi pe site-ul oficial al instituţiei, worldrecordsacademy.org.

Sportiva română a câştigat titlul olimpic de la Jocurile Olimpice de la Beijing, la vârsta de 38 de ani, cu opt ani mai mult decât performera precedentă, portugheza Rosa Mota, câştigătoare la JO de la Seul în 1988, la 30 de ani.

World Records Academy notează că victoria atletei Constatina Diţă a fost un moment memorabil, performanţa ei urmând a face parte de acum nu doar din istoria olimpică, ci şi din recordurile acestei organizaţii.

De celalaltă parte, Valeriu Tomescu, antrenorul Constantinei Diţă pentru JO de la Beijing, a fost înregistrat drept cel mai tânăr antrenor al unei campioane olimpice de maraton.

Tomescu avea doar 32 de ani la momentul în care atleta câştiga titlul olimpic la Beijing.
