Liberal head Crin Antonescu said on Monday any alliance between him and Traian Basescu is excluded.Antonescu added he would not give him his support in the runoff of the presidential election because a new term for Basescu would be the worst thing that could happen to the values of democracy.
On the other hand Antonescu excludes also cooperation with the democrat-liberals. He criticized the incumbent president and said he ‘was not a right wing candidate’, but a ‘populist’ candidate.
Crin Antonescu, placed third in the first round of presidential elections, conditioned the cooperation with the social-democrat of the support provided for Klaus Johannis as prime minister and all the projects this initiative include.
Antonescu stressed any eventual support for PSD candidate Mircea Geoana in the runoff would not be the result of bargaining over positions, but rather of discussions over a future government set up in keeping with competence criteria.
PNL is expected to decide on Tuesday in their position in the runoff.Antonescu re-iterated his support for Klaus Johannis’s candidacy for prime-minister and the fact that PNL was not concerned about appointing its own people to key-positions.
