The head of the Romanian Academic Society (SAR), Alina Mungiu Pippidi conditions her participation in the elections to the European Parliament on the Democrat-Liberal Party's list on a series of six integrity criteria that had to be met by all the candidates. She also said that she will not run on the same list with Elena Basescu, the head of state's daughter.

In Pippidi's view, the six criteria that have to be met by EP candidates are a true test of modernity. In a statement to Realitatea FM, the SAR president said that "if the Democrat-Liberal Party rejects the candidacy of Elena Basescu, this means they have passed the test of modernity.” In the same statement, she said that in her opinion, Elena Basescu's candidacy was "unacceptable.”

Practically, Pippidi forced Deocrat-Liberals to choose between her candidacy and that of the president's daughter. The criteria set by Pippidi for a candidate are the following: not having colaborated with the Securitate, not owning any wealth that cannot be justified by their incomes, not having been sentenced by a court and not being probed or on trial, not taking advantage from the public office of a family member, not having moved between more than two political parties, not having an inadequate behavior in public.

When asked what she will do if the PD-L list of candidates will nevertheless include such names, Pippidi replied, "When and if this becomes clear, I will publicly announce my withdrawal form the race, regardless of its stage, with all the due apologies to the PD-L Iasi branch, which deserves credit not only for the offer, but also for adopting this program.”

Elena Basescu was extremely stern in her reaction and refused to make comments. She said that "she ahs no intention in getting into a debate with Mrs. Mungiu” and not in the least interested in commenting on Pippidi's statements.

Preşedintele Societăţii Academice din România, Alina Mungiu Pippidi conditioneaza participarea sa la alegerile parlamentare pe listelele PDL printr-o serie de 6 criterii de integritate si sustine ca nu va candida alaturi de Elena Basescu, fiica Sefului Statului.

Alina Mungiu Pippidi consideră cele şase criterii pe care trebuie să le întrunească nominalizatul pentru Parlamentul European reprezintă un adevărat test al modernităţii. Într-o declaraţie pentru Realitatea FM, preşedintele SAR a precizat că "dacă Partidul Democrat Liberal va respinge candidatura Elenei Băsescu înseamnă că a trecut testul modernităţii". Tot aici, Alina Mungiu a spus că, în opinia sa, candidatura Elenei Băsescu "este inacceptabilă".

Practic, Pippidi i-a somat pe democrat-liberali să aleagă între candidatura sa şi cea a fiicei preşedintelui.Criteriile Alinei Mungiu Pippidi pentru a candida sunt:  1. Să nu fi colaborat cu fosta Securitate2. Să nu deţină averi neconcordante cu sursele de venit 3. Să nu fi suferit condamnări penale, să nu fie sub urmărire sau trimişi în judecată 4. Să nu fi profitat sau să profite de pe urma poziţiei publice a unui membru al familieilor 5. Să nu fi schimbat mai mult de două partide politice 6. Să nu se fi ilustrat prin comportament inadecvat în spaţiul public.  

Intrebata ce va face daca lista de eurocandidati PDL va contine totusi astfel de nume, Alina Mungiu Pippidi a raspuns ca "In momentul in care acest lucru va deveni clar, va anunţa public renunţarea la candidatura, indiferent de stadiul competiţiei, cu scuzele de rigoare faţa de organizaţia de la Iasi, care merita credit nu doar pentru propunere, ci si pentru adoptarea acestui program."

Elena Băsescu a fost extrem de tranşantă şi deloc deschisă declaraţiilor. Ea a spus că "nu are de gând să polemizeze cu doamna Mungiu" şi cu atât mai puţin este interesată să le comenteze.
