They say gentlemen prefer blondes – but it seems that only holds true when they are out on the town. For, while they are more likely to chat up a fair-haired lady on a night out, men actually find brunettes more attractive, a study has shown, according to Daily Mail.

University of Westminster researchers sent a woman to three London nightclubs with her hair dyed brunette, blonde and then red, and watched how many men approached her.  They then returned to the clubs and asked 130 men to rate pictures of her in the three guises.

She was chatted up the most as a blonde. But she was rated most highly for attractiveness and intelligence when brunette, the Scandinavian Journal of Psychology reports. University of Westminster researcher Viren Swami said that his results may reflect a shift in fashion, with brunettes now being idealised in the way that blondes were several decades ago.

He said: ‘In the Sixties and early Seventies, when Jackie Kennedy was the ideal, brunette hair became the ideal for women generally. Then, in the Seventies and Eighties, blondes became the ideal. But more recently, there has been a backlash against blondes and the dumb blonde idea has become dominant.’

Se spune că bărbaţii preferă blondele, dar, în realitate, ei consideră brunetele mai atrăgătoare, conform unui studiu realizat de către cercetătorii de la Universitatea Westminster din Londra, citat de Daily Mail.

Pentru a realiza acest studiu, grupul de cercetători a trimis o femeie în trei cluburi londoneze şi a observat câţi bărbaţi au abordat-o. Aceasta a avut iniţial părul negru, iar apoi blond şi roşcat. Ca blondă, femeia care a participat la studiu a fost abordată de 60 de bărbaţi, faţă de 42 atunci când a fost brunetă şi18 atunci când a fost roşcată.

După aceea, ei s-au întors în cluburi şi au rugat 130 de bărbaţi să dea note unor fotografii în care femeia apărea în cele trei ipostaze.

În urma studiului, s-a observat faptul că femeia a fost abordată în club de cei mai mulţi bărbaţi atunci când era blondă, dar a fost considerată cea mai atractivă şi mai inteligentă atunci când era brunetă.

Cercetătorul Viren Swami care a participat la studiu spune că rezultatele acestuia arată o schimbare a modei şi că brunetele sunt văzute, în prezent, aşa cum erau văzute blondele în urmă cu câteva decenii.

"În anii 60 şi la începutul anilor 70, atunci când Jackie Kennedy era considerată a fi perfectă, părul brunet a devenit ideal pentru femei. Apoi, în anii 70 şi 80, blondele au devenit perfecte", explică Swami.

"Recent însă a apărut o reacţie împotriva blondelor şi idea că acestea nu ar fi inteligente a devenit dominantă", a mai adăugat cercetătorul.
